MTD
A leader in the residential and commercial lawn equipment manufacturing industry, MTD has offices all over the world and employs more 2,000 people in Weakley County in its 350,000-square-foot building. MTD makes parts for brands such as Cub Cadet, Troy-Bilt, Craftsman and more. MTD chose Weakley County in part for its skilled workforce, many of whom train at the University of Tennessee at Martin and other educational institutions nearby.
Savant Learning Systems
Savant Learning Systems is leading the way in the information technology industry. Savant partners with educational institutions and other industries to create e-learning platforms that mirror traditional campus-taught courses. In addition to its learning management systems, Savant also creates other user-friendly platforms and high-quality content for use in education and training centers. Savant was started by a UT Martin alumnus who chose to stay in the county because of its educated workers and access to nearby major markets.
Old Hickory Clay Company
Old Hickory Clay Company and its parent entity, Gleason Clay Company, provide the highest quality ball clays and kaolins in the world for sanitary home goods and ceramic tile manufacturers, as well as the brick, asphalt and hobby industries. Old Hickory Clay added the Gleason location in Weakley County, in part because of its strategic location and access to natural resources. International brands like Koehler rely on Old Hickory for the highest ball clay for their products.
